Melted or Room-Temperature Ice Packs are Expected. This is especially true during summer months, and does not affect the purity, potency or integrity of your order. LuvionBio products ship as lyophilized (freeze-dried) powders, which remain stable at room temperature for far longer than any shipping window.
Why Freeze-Dried Powders Tolerate Transit Warmth
Lyophilization removes water from the peptide, leaving a dry, porous solid. Water is what drives nearly every degradation pathway:
- Hydrolysis — water cleaving peptide bonds
- Oxidation
- Deamidation
- Aggregation
- Microbial growth
With the water removed, those pathways slow dramatically. This is why lyophilized powder is the industry standard format for peptide shipping and storage, and why major suppliers ship lyophilized material at ambient temperature as routine practice.
Published handling guidance places room-temperature tolerance for lyophilized peptides in the range of days to weeks. LuvionBio's standard transit is one to three days. The margin is substantial.
What Cold-Chain Shipping is actually Protecting Against
It isn't spoilage. It's Temperature Swing.
Packages sit in delivery vehicles and sorting facilities that reach extreme temperatures in summer. Insulated mailers and ice packs create a controlled draw-down from our commercial freezers to your door — narrowing the range your package experiences rather than keeping it frozen the entire way.
Melted Ice Packs Mean Our System Worked. They absorbed heat that would otherwise have reached your vials. A pack that arrives fully melted has done exactly what it was packed to do.
Moisture is the Real Risk — And we Control it in Three Layers
For lyophilized material, humidity matters far more than brief warmth. Freeze-dried powder is hygroscopic, meaning it readily pulls moisture from the surrounding air. Every LuvionBio order is packed with that in mind:
- Sealed Vials — The primary moisture barrier
- Vacuum Sealing — A second barrier around the vials
- Desiccant Packs — We place desiccant packs inside the vacuum sealed box to capture any residual humidity
Our shipping schedule
We ship on a restricted schedule specifically to keep packages out of weekend transit and extended heat exposure.
- Monday through Thursday only, with a 1:00 PM ET cutoff
- Thursday orders arrive Saturday
- Orders placed after Thursday cutoff are held in refrigerated storage at 33°F over the weekend and ship first thing Monday
No LuvionBio package sits in a transit facility over a weekend.
What we're improving
Our packaging is being upgraded across the board:
- Insulated Mailers with a higher R-value for greater thermal resistance
- Higher-Density foam
- Larger ice packs with more Thermal Mass
These changes widen an already comfortable margin. They aren't a response to a problem with the material itself — they reflect how we approach quality generally, which is to build in redundancy before it's needed.
When your package arrives
- Move vials to refrigeration promptly. Use freezer storage if you don't plan to begin your research in the near-term.
- DO NOT Freeze the Free Diluent we ship. Water expands as it freezes, which can crack the vial or compromise its seal. Refrigeration is fine.
- Let Cold Vials Reach Room Temperature before Opening. Opening a chilled vial in humid air causes condensation to form inside it — introducing the exact moisture the freeze-drying process removed. This is the single most common handling mistake.
- Keep Desiccant Packs with your Vials if you're storing them.
- Check the Powder. A dry cake that looks slightly uneven or partially settled is normal and doesn't indicate a problem.
When to contact us
Warm packaging on its own isn't a reason to reach out. These are:
- Vial contents appear liquid, sticky, or fully collapsed rather than a dry powder
- A vial seal is broken or compromised
- A vial is cracked or damaged
- Items are missing from your order
Email info@luvionbio.com with your order number and photos of the vials and packaging. Photos let us review it immediately rather than going back and forth.
